This recipe uses butter rather than processed oil to moisten and apple sauce rather than sugar to sweeten. Yum!gingerbread-b


2 1/4 cups flour (white or wheat)

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon

2 teaspoons ginger

1/2 teaspoon cloves

1/2 cup butter, softened

1 cup molasses

1 egg

1 cup applesauce

3/4 cup raisins, soaked in hot water to plump (optional)


1. Sift dry ingredients, cut in butter. Stir in molasses, egg, applesauce, raisins.
2. Pour into greased and floured 8″ square pan. Bake 350 for 40-45 minute.
